Lesson 17: Book of Purification from Umdatul-Ahkam – Uwais at-Taweel
Explanations of Hadeeth #24 of the Book of Purification (#2 of the Chapter of Things that Invalidate Wudoo’):
Narrated ‘Abdullah ibn Zayd ibn ‘Aasim al-Maazini: “Someone complained to the Prophet ﷺ regarding a man who had a feeling (of passing wind) during the Prayer (that he was unsure of). So he (the Messenger ﷺ) said: ‘He should not leave until he hears a sound or smells an odour.’ ”
Some issues discussed:
- A clarification of an important principle derived from this hadeeth: ‘Certainty is not removed by doubt’, along with examples.
- Simply having a doubt does not nullify one’s wudoo’.
- The impermissibility of leaving the prayer until one has a valid, justified reason.
The class was held on Saturday, 25th of Jumudaa al-Ulaa, 1442 (January 9th 2021).
