Advice For Those Who Return To Artificial Intelligence (AI) Programs (MetaAI, ChatGPT, etc.) for Fatāwa (Legislative Rulings)

Question:

As-Salām ‘Alaykum Warahmatullah Wa Bārakātuh, Our Shaykh, May Allāh preserve you.

There is an information program called Meta AI (Artificial Intelligence), which provides answers to every question about the religion asked to it. It often gives wrong answers, and it may provide answers according to the widely spread answers of the people of innovation and desires. Regrettably, many of the general Muslims, even those who are enlightened/educated, have been enticed and deluded by it.

What is your advice to those who use this program and rely on it for legislative rulings (Fatāwa)?

May Allah reward you with good.

Answer by Shaykh Abdullāh Adh-Dhafairī (may Allāh preserve him):

Wa ‘Alaykum As-Salām Warahmatullah Wa Bārakātuh, Welcome

If the program is as described, then it is not permissible for the Muslims to depend on it so that they are not led astray in their religion. The Salaf used to say that: “This knowledge is religion, so be careful of whom you take your religion from.”

How (could they depend on it) when these systems, called Artificial Intelligence, alter the fatāwa (legislative rulings) or present the fatāwa of the people of innovation?!

It is mandatory for the Muslim to not gamble with his religion and put it at risk, nor should he rely on such means to learn about his religion. He is sinful if he takes his religion from these questionable means, and (he) exposes his religion to danger.

It is obligatory upon him to take (and learn his religion) from the esteemed scholars and from the official websites of the firmly-grounded well-known scholars or from their famous well-known printed books. It is obligatory upon the Muslim to not gamble with his religion and expose it to risks, nor should he entertain such questionable means in order to protect his religion.

And Allah is the One Who grants success.

May Allah raise the rank and bless our Prophet Muhammad.

السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته شيخنا حفظكم الله

وجد برنامج معلوماتي يعبر عنه بمساعد الذكاء الاصطناعي (ميتى ) يُسأَلُ ويجيب عن كل سؤال طرح عليه في الدين، وكثيرا ما يجيب بأجوبة خاطئة وقد يجيب على وفق ما اشتهر من أجوبة أهل البدع والأهواء، وللأسف اغتر به كثير من عوام الناس بل وحتى من المثقفين،

فما نصيحتكم لمن يستعمل هذا البرنامج ويعتمد عليه في الفتاوى الشرعية

وعليكم السلام ورحمة الله وبركاته، أهلا وسهلا

إذا كان هذا البرنامج على هذا الحال فلا يجوز للمسلم أن يعتمد عليه حتى لا يضل في دينه، قد كان السلف يقولون “إن هذا العلم دين، فانظروا عمن تأخذون دينكم”

فكيف وهذه الأجهزة التي تسمى الذكاء الصناعي تَقلِب الفتاوى أو تُنَزّل فتاوى أهل البدع؟

فالمسلم الواجب عليه ألا يغامر في دينه ولا يعتمد على مثل هذه الوسائل في أخذ دينه. فهو آثم إن أخذ دينه من هذه الوسائل المشبوهة ويعرض دينه على الخطر

الواجب عليه أن يأخذ من أهل العلم المعتبرين ومن المواقع الرسمية للعلماء الربانيين المعروفين أو من مؤلفاتهم المشهورة المعروفة المطبوعة.

يجب على المسلم ألا يغامر في دينه ولا يقبل على مثل هذه الوسائل المشبوهة حفاظاً على دينه والله الموفق
