“The Intention” By Shaykh Ibn Uthaymeen (rahimahullah)

فوائد من المجلد الأول :
1ـ النية تكون كاملة بثلاثة أشياء :
ــ نية العبادة ، مثال: تنوي الصلاة وأنها الظهر أو العصر أو ما أشبه ذلك .
ــ نية أن تكون لله ، بمعنى أنك إنما تصلي لله عزوجل لا لغيره ، لا تصلي رياءً ولا سمعة ولا لتمدح على صلاتك .
ــ نية أن تقوم بها امتثالاً لأمر الله ، بمعنى تستحضر أنك تصلي امتثالاً لأمر ربك حيث قال ( أقم الصلاة ) ، ( فإذا اطمأننتم فأقيموا الصلاة ) . ص14 .
The intention is complete with three things:
Intention of worship;
example: you intend (to pray a specific) prayer (whether) dhuhr or asr or similar to that.
Intention (to worship) for the sake of Allah- meaning; you only pray for the sake of Allah, The Mighty and Majestic, and not for other than Him. You do not pray to show off, or to be spoken of, nor so that you can be praised for your prayer.
Intention to fulfil the command of Allaah by way of (that action)- meaning; you remember that you are praying in obedience to the command of your Lord, when he said:
أقم الصلاة : Establish the prayer. (1) And
فأقيموا الصلاة: perform the prayer.(2)

أَقِمِ الصَّلَاةَ لِدُلُوكِ الشَّمْسِ إِلَىٰ غَسَقِ اللَّيْلِ وَقُرْآنَ الْفَجْرِ إِنَّ قُرْآنَ الْفَجْرِ كَانَ مَشْهُودًا
Perform As-Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat) from mid-day till the darkness of the night (i.e. the Zuhr, ‘Asr, Maghrib, and ‘Isha’ prayers), and recite the Quran in the early dawn (i.e. the morning prayer). Verily, the recitation of the Quran in the early dawn is ever witnessed (attended by the angels in charge of mankind of the day and the night).
Soorah Al- Israa Verse 78

فَإِذَا قَضَيْتُمُ الصَّلَاةَ فَاذْكُرُوا اللَّهَ قِيَامًا وَقُعُودًا وَعَلَىٰ جُنُوبِكُمْ فَإِذَا اطْمَأْنَنتُمْ فَأَقِيمُوا الصَّلَاةَ إِنَّ الصَّلَاةَ كَانَتْ عَلَى الْمُؤْمِنِينَ كِتَابًا مَّوْقُوتًا
When you have finished As-Salat (the prayer – congregational), remember Allah standing, sitting down, and lying down on your sides, but when you are free from danger, perform As-Salat (Iqamat-as- Salat). Verily, the prayer is enjoined on the believers at fixed hours.
